Martha Coleman
Martha Coleman is providing expert advice to NACEW on pay equity issues. Martha works in the Human Rights Group of Crown Law, but does not represent her employer in her involvement with the Council.
Martha has been closely involved with women's employment issues for over 25 years through paid work as a union official, as a pay equity advisor to the Employment Equity Commission and as a researcher for the Trade Union Research Unit at Ruskin College in Oxford, UK, where she worked on a number of equal pay cases.
Martha has also been active in a number of NGOs in the area of women's employment. She is an active founding member of the Coalition for Equal Value Equal Pay (CEVEP) and was also instrumental in starting the campaign for paid parental leave.
Martha holds an LLM from Yale University where she studied as a Fulbright scholar. She was also awarded a Human Rights Teaching Fellowship at Columbia University Law School. Martha has worked as an adjunct lecturer at the Victoria University of Wellington Law School and has taught both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in labour law and anti-discrimination law.
