This report examines parental leave policies, in terms of both the labour market and wider benefits that may flow from the provision of parental leave. It gives an overview of the components and objectives of parental leave schemes. The report then focuses on New Zealand provisions available under the Parental Leave and Employment Protection Act (PLEPA) 1987, and discusses three key issues: payment, eligibility and information issues.
